Product description

Harbor scene by the well-known Danish painter Ludvig Kabell 1853 - 1902. Dimensions 32 x 49 cm (without frame).Early on, Ludvig Kabell, following the artist friends of the Skovgaard circle, was recognized as one of the representatives of a new and more naturalistic, French-inspired landscape painting. K's sketches and smaller outdoor works from his youth to the mid-1880s are also characterized by a direct observation of nature and landscapes with a fine sense of light and color. As fame increased, the formats grew and with the demand for more monumental national landscapes, the studio image acquired a dominant position in K's production. Characteristic not only of K., but also of the role models in the Danish landscape tradition as P.C. Skovgaard and Godfred Christensen as well as friend Karl Jensen replaced the immediacy of the open-air image with more elaborate and sometimes fundamental compositions with the main focus on an overall effect that transcends moods.
