Gustav Breuning (born 1828, d. Grudziadz 1902.) - painter. His origins and years of training are not exactly known, although they are probably in Berlin School circles. He had lived in Graudenz since 1860 and ran a studio there as well as a paint and wallpaper shop. Among other things, he worked for the local Protestant church and painted portraits and sacred themes as well as architectural views from the local area. His works are in the Grudziadz and in the museums Museum for West Prussia in Münster and represented in private collections. Breuning mainly painted oil paintings and created lithographs. His grave is in the old Protestant cemetery in Torun. One of his significant main works is the view of Grudziadz, which he painted in 1869, as well as the castle of the noble family of Bielerow in Melno in today's Poland with the view of the surrounding castles. This work shows the view of the Courtyard of Melno Castle with a view of the tower flagged with the German imperial flag. Rich figure decorations, lively representation of cattle and horses, on the right a representation of field workers, on the left a herd of cattle is being driven into the stables. The work comes from aristocratic provenance. Oil on canvas. Dimensions: 53 x 85 cm. Signed at the bottom left and dated 1892. The picture is sold!
