Karl Kaufmann [1843-1901] was an Austrian painter, known for his landscapes with Venetian scenes. Kaufmann was born in Neuplachavitz in 1843. He specialized in views of eastern cities and Venice, considered the port of the East. In some cases his painted cities have an imaginary East.
He studied at the Vienna Academy. His travels in Northern Europe -Norway, Holland, Germany -Franconia, Danzig and Königsberg often in Italy-Naples, Rome, Venice, gave him the reasons for many of his landscapes.
He signed his works with various pseudonyms Byon, H.Carnier, W.Carnier, F.Gilbert, O.Halm, C. Charpentier, J. Holmstedt, Charles Marchand, R. Merkner, B. Lambert, E.M Leutner. Heger, Hobart, L. van Howe, R. Jäger, Laarsen, Lundberg, F. Marchant, J. Marchant, C. Poul, F. Rodek, J. Rollin R. Benda. However, not all of his pseudonyms have been identified, it is likely that some of his paintings were attributed to unknown minor artists. Today most of the artist's paintings are in private ownership. The work is out of stock.
