Product description
This planting amphora is much more than just a garden accessory - it is a homage to European garden art of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. The historical originThe design is based on the classic “Campana shape” (Italian for bell). This vase shape was originally used in ancient times for monumental bronze and marble vessels. With the rediscovery of ancient ideals in the Renaissance - particularly in the magnificent gardens of the Medici in Italy - this style experienced a rebirth. A touch of Versailles. This form achieved its greatest cultural influence in the 17th and 18th centuries under Louis XIV in France. Hundreds of such amphoras were used in the gardens of Versailles to structure the long visual axes and to demonstrate the Sun King's wealth. The elaborate reliefs, often with mythological scenes or floral patterns like the foliage shown here, were symbols of order and man's mastery of nature. From the palace to the private garden in the 19th century, during the Victorian era, these stately designs became accessible to the middle class through new casting processes. They became an integral part of the "English Landscape Garden", where they were often placed as a central focal point (eye-catcher) in the middle of gravel paths or at the end of hedge paths - just like in your illustration. Today, this amphora brings exactly this timeless grandeur to modern gardens and builds a bridge between ancient formal language and today's garden culture.
