Rudolf Stelling Neumünster 1907-1989, East Holstein landscape oil on panel, 1950s, 82 x 90 cm signed lower right, verso title: "Ost Holstein landscape Rudolf Stelling Neumünster" in the original frame of the time. 1930-33 Attended the arts and crafts school under Prof. Zimmermann and painter E.Lange Kiel. 1933 student of old master Max Werner. 1937-1939 studied art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich under Prof. Mayersdorfer, Rösse and old master Hugo Troendle. Since becoming a freelance artist, he has had numerous exhibitions and prizes in Europe and abroad.

Rudolf Stelling was obviously one of the most important artists from Neumünster, who was involved in various areas of art.

Education and teaching: Rudolf Stelling received his training at the arts and crafts school in Kiel. He then worked as a teacher at the adult education center in Neumünster for more than three decades.

Traveling museum and artistic work: Stelling was also an artistic collaborator and advisor to the “Wandering Museum” at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel. In this role he created paintings and drawings that dealt with topics such as prehistory and early history, the formation of the earth and marine biology.

Focus on native surroundings: The main focus of Stelling's artistic work was on his native surroundings. He created numerous city views of Neumünster, views of church interiors both on the mainland (Lübeck) and on the islands and Halligen. He also repeatedly painted views of beaches and coasts on the west coast.

Restoration work: In addition to his artistic work, Stelling worked as a restorer for many years. He restored churches in Lübeck, his hometown Neumünster and on the Halligen.

Literature: Rudolf Stelling has also been recognized in various publications in daily newspapers, periodicals and catalogs. An example is the book "My Father's City, My Schleswig-Holstein. An Artist's Portrait", which was published in 1987 by Wachholtz Verlag in Neumünster.

Schleswig-Holstein Artists' Lexicon: Stelling is mentioned in the "Schleswig-Holstein Artists' Lexicon" by Berend Harke Feddersen from 1984.
