Expressive dynamic oil painting by Pechstein student Karl Richter (1927-1959) Berlin Westhafen with the factory building: Ford Germany
Titled, signed and dated 1956 on the verso.
Karl Richter was born on April 13, 1927 in Zwickau and came from a merchant family.
He attended the Zwickau secondary school until 1943 and in the same year was drafted into the German Wehrmacht as an air force helper, where he served in Brandenburg until the end of the war.
From 1947 he studied at the University of Fine Arts in Berlin, where Max Pechstein worked as a professor. Pechstein encouraged Richter to take part in the Max Pechstein Competition in Zwickau, where he won the prize in 1948.
Richter focused his works on still lifes of landscapes and flowers, which showed an expressive realism influenced by Max Pechstein and Oskar Kokoschka.
Between 1954 and 1955 he took part in the International Summer Academy in Salzburg and from 1955 worked as a lecturer at the Berlin-Reinickendorf adult education center.
In 1948, Richter won the Max Pechstein Prize in Zwickau for his colored pencil drawings and watercolors due to his strong talent, diligent study and individual expression.
Exhibitions:
Richter took part in various exhibitions, including one in 1954 at the Zwickau Municipal Museum and a 2010 exhibition entitled "Karl Richter (1927–1959). A Pechstein Student" at the Zwickau Art Collections.
